February, 2011

Dear brethren in Christ,

Christian greetings.  May God’s grace and love be yours abundantly.

Permit us to share some highlights of what God had allowed to happen in our midst.

As we all know, the Philippines is being shaken with news of corruption in practically all sectors/branches of the government. This is an indication that the Filipinos need to have a personal encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ - as their personal Lord and Savior. Only Christ can set the Filipinos free from corruption to righteousness.  Mindful of this need, the College of Science and Mathematics – MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology through their dean, Dr. Jinky Bornales (a member of the Iligan ministry) invited kuya Dave Tauli and Babes Mendoza last week (Feb. 11, 2011) to give a lecture on Management and Character Development. More than 100 staff and some faculty members attended the forum.  Kuya Dave in his lecture stated some assumptions in Management, that is, a belief that God created man and therefore he should be accountable to Him. The core of leadership is service and what matters in the end is not what one gained in life but whether he had served others and made life better for them. Babes followed that thought by sharing that character change is not possible unless there is an outside intervention. History reveals the rise and fall of civilization because of character degradation. Even if man is knowledgeable of moral values and that laws are strictly implemented, man continues to misbehave and break rules. Babes pointed out that the real problem is the heart of man, which is “deceitful and desperately wicked.”  But God intervened and came down 2000 years ago to solve our moral problem - which is actually sin. Babes presented the Gospel in a nutshell. Let’s pray that the participants will think seriously of the claims of Christ and will decide to really invite Him into their lives.

Meanwhile, join us in praising the Lord for the spiritual and financial blessings he poured out in Katingawan, Cotabato ministry. Spiritually, the Lord enabled them to reach out to communities and tribal folks in more than 10 areas/places in Cotabato and Lanao provinces. Those who accepted the Lord are now being followed up by members of their core and planning teams.

With regards to their financial blessings, some brethren who are tricycle drivers and farmers were able to buy their own motorcycles which they have long prayed for. They needed these motorbikes to bring them to far-flung ministry areas which could hardly be reached by four-wheel vehicles. With these motorbikes, they can now easily visit these areas for Bible studies and follow up. Also, the construction of their fellowship building had been started.

The Caraga group (Agusan provinces and the city of Butuan) will be holding a regional conference on the last weekend of February.  On March 31 to April 3, the umbrella youth brethren will be conducting a commitment conference for the incoming second line leaders all over Mindanao here in Cagayan de Oro regional center. About 50 youth leaders will troop to Cagayan de Oro to attend this conference. After this activity, the ministry will be holding the 3rd Missions Training also in Cagayan De Oro regional center on 16 April to 7 May. We expect around 40 participants to this training.  Join us in prayer that the Lord will use these activities to train, motivate and encourage our brethren to obey the Great Commission.

Many undergraduate contacts will be graduating next march. Also, two of our leaders from MSU Marawi, and Iligan will finish their Ph. D. degrees in Mathematics. Let’s thank the Lord for His faithfulness in their lives.

All over the world, we are witnessing the signs of Jesus’ second coming.  Let’s thank the Lord for He promised to perfect what He had started in His children’s lives.  May He find all of us faithful until He comes.  God bless you.

In Christ,

Bern and Babes Mendoza
